Healthcare is important. Medical professionals are too

They stay away from their families for you and me.

Kinja'd!!!

Don’t let them get infected. One of the main reasons why Italy and Spain are in the can is that many medical professionals here got incapacitated by the virus(ignoring social distancing at first was another). Germany and France on the other hand have fewer deaths because they kept most of them safe. Let’s keep alive those who keep us alive.

Cops and paramedics are starting to get sick, too.

Now it starts to infect that friend of a friend. 2deg. I have company offered leave but it’s in May. I have to get through April. I personally feel on borr ow ed time but work is vacant, and less customers means less chance? I hope anyway.

Yes - it’s getting ugly in New York, and the worst thing that can happen is the health care system getting overwhelmed.

We’re ok here right now, and the hospital my wife works at seems to have a good plan and good supplies, but we’re nowhere near our peak yet.

We are practicing distancing more than most I think, partly to minimize her risk (as well as elderly parents and small children).

Stay safe!

Over 12000 medical professionals got infected in Spain. A few died. It’s a disaster. Coming from America to Europe, I was impressed by the European healthcare system, its widespread availability and efficiency. But now I see it on its knees. Unreal.

Yes, it’s awful. My wife had 1 patient this weekend that has COVID-19, probably 2. Luckily she didn’t end up needing face to face visits with either, and she was extremely cautious in the hospital, but you just don’t know.

Thing is, we have no idea what it will be like here in 2, 3, 4 weeks.

Believe me, we are all very worried here.

Safe thing is to treat everyone as potentially infected and wear adequate protection. Other than that, it’s up to chance.

My sister worked her shirt covid unit yesterday. Twenty six patients, four confirmed, everyone stable. She had full PPE, but had to wear the same mask all day. She doubled up with a surgical mask and shield over the N95 when with patients. There’s no viable option to stay away from family, so we’re being as sanitary as we can.

Staying away from family is easier said than done. We don’t really have that option, either. My wife is gearing up the same way your sister is before she walks in, and taking it off when she leaves for now.

Best wishes to her and your family.

Thanks, same to you. My sister has been treating people for months with flu like symptoms but testing negative for flu. My dad had a bad cold for a month with a dry cough, so we are fairly certain we were already exposed.

The healthcare systems vary slightly in each European country, but some countries didn’t take heed of what was happening in China, as countries got infected, more countries started taking notice, some it was already too late, others were able to learn from mistakes made by earlier infected countries.

This is a new virus, granted it's of the corona virus family, but there were so many unknowns (and still are).

Funny, I’ve heard a lot of stories of people who had symptoms months ago, around here too.

Hopefully your dad was exposed and developed some immunity.
